Cowgirls Use Strong Second Half To Beat SIUE, 86-61

STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma State Women's Basketball used a second half surge to win its first-ever matchup with SIU Edwardsville, 86-61, in front of 2,286 fans inside Gallagher-Iba Arena on Friday night..
With her team leading by just five at halftime, senior Brittney Martin scored eight consecutive points for the Cowgirls to open the second half as OSU made its first five shots to extend its lead to 12. She led all scorers with 24 points in the game while also snagging eight rebounds.
In the second quarter, Martin grabbed her third rebound of the game and 800th of her career, making her the sixth Cowgirl to ever reach the mark.
Martin was the driving force for the Cowgirls late, but in the first quarter, it was sophomore Kaylee Jensen who couldn't be stopped. Halfway through the first quarter, senior Roddricka Patton threw a pass downcourt to junior Katelyn Loecker. Loecker tipped the pass behind her to the trailing Jensen, who then layed it in and drew a foul.
Jensen converted the and-one to put the Cowgirls up 12-4 as she continued her dominant first quarter performance. She tallied 11 points, including the first eight for the Cowgirls, had two blocks, one steal and grabbed two offensive rebounds in her first seven minutes of action.
Coming off of her first career double-double, Jensen followed it up by scoring a career-high 23 points, while adding eight rebounds and three blocks.
In the first half, Loecker, Patton and sophomore Mandy Coleman combined to dish out 12 assists on 18 Cowgirl baskets.
Coleman was an all-around performer as the sophomore snagged eight rebounds, blocked four shots and dished out a career-high five assists. Loecker tied her career-high with four assists, while Patton tallied nine for the game.
Karli Wheeler also chipped in 13 points, a career-high for the freshman.
OSU finishes its three-game homestand unblemished and will be back in action on Monday, Nov. 23, when the Cowgirls travel to Springfield, Missouri to take on Missouri State.
