Babic Wins Dick Vitale Classic

LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. – Oklahoma State sophomore Vladica Babic was crowned singles champion of the Dick Vitale Intercollegiate Clay Court Classic on Sunday.
Babic won the singles title by defeating Spencer Liang of Florida in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4.
"I'm very proud of Vladi because she prepared well for this tournament and it showed in her results," coach Chris Young said. "She continues to improve her game and fitness and that was tested this weekend."
The win marks the second year in a row that a Cowgirl has brought the event's singles title back to Stillwater.
Katarina Adamovic won the honor in last year's Dick Vitale Classic, where she also defeated Liang in the final.
Babic and Carla Tur Mari also took part in the doubles final inside Lakewood Ranch Country Club. The final provided OSU another showdown against the Gators.
The Cowgirl duo fell to Anna Danilina and Brianna Morgan of Florida, 8-2. The Cowgirl tandem had an impressive showing throughout the weekend, winning three out of four matches in their first action as a pairing this fall season.
"Vladi and Carla represented our program very well this weekend and Matt Manasse did a great job with the girls," Young said. "It's a great way to finish our fall season."
Sunday marked the conclusion of the Cowgirls fall schedule. The Cowgirls will return to action on Jan. 10 inside the Greenwood Tennis Center for a double header against Abilene Christian and Oral Roberts.
