Cowgirls Open Season With Pair of Wins

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State women's tennis opened the spring season with two matches inside the Michael and Anne Greenwood Tennis Center on Sunday.
The Cowgirls picked up two wins to open the season in their first action of the spring.
"Today was good for us, I thought we came out and did exactly what we wanted to do with two matches to start the season," coach Chris Young said. "I thought it gave our girls the opportunity to work on the things that they've been practicing on."
In the first match of the day, the Cowgirls defeated Abilene Christian, 6-1.
OSU opened the day by taking the doubles point in quick fashion against the Wildcats.
Senior Maria Alvarez paired with January enrollee Katarina Stresnakova for the first match of her Cowgirl career. The tandem took down Nada Marjanovic and Ansley Boarman, 6-2, on court three.
Katarina Adamovic and Vladica Babic secured the doubles point for the Pokes after defeating Lucile Pothier and Kaysie Hermsdorf, 6-1, on court two.
The No. 23-ranked duo of Viktoriya Lushkova and Carla Tur Mari finished their match against Erin Walker and Whitney Williams, 6-3.
In singles action, the Cowgirls in three matches that were all won in straight sets.
Tur Mari gave the Cowgirls a 2-0 lead with her win against Williams, 6-0, 6-1.
Babic, ranked No. 38 in the ITA preseason rankings defeated Hermsdorf, 6-1, 6-3.
Alvarez took down Andrea Cook on court six without surrendering a single point, winning, 6-0, 6-0.
No. 46 Lushkova secured the match victory for the Cowgirls on court three against Pothier. The Cowgirl All-American won the match in front of a packed Greenwood Tennis Center crowd, 6-2, 6-3.
No. 27 Adamovic defeated Erin Walker, 6-1, 6-3.
Stresnakova also competed in her first singles match as a Cowgirl. The native of Slovakia took on Marjanovic in an entertaining three-set match. The newest Cowgirl took the first set of the match. Stresnakova battled throughout the match before eventually falling, 6-3, 7-6, 1-0.
In the second match of the day, the Cowgirls swept in-state rival Oral Roberts, 4-0.
"I thought the girls did a good job over the break of staying in good shape and to come out today and win two matches is a testament to our conditioning," Young said.
The Cowgirls picked up the doubles point without surrendering a match point, as the tandems of Lushkova/Tur Mari and Stresnakova/Lucas both won their respective matches, 6-0.
Tur Mari defeated Ximena Puentes in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. Lushkova defeated Petya Simeonova, 6-0, 6-2.
Stresnakova put the match away for the Cowgirls with a 6-0, 6-2, victory on court four. The match marked the first victory for Stresnakova in a Cowgirl uniform.
OSU will return to action on Tuesday, where they will face No. 74 Wyoming inside the Greenwood Tennis Center at 6:30 p.m.
