Cowgirls Continue Winning Ways

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State women's tennis improved to 3-0 on Tuesday, after a 7-0 victory against No. 74 Wyoming inside the Michael and Anne Greenwood Tennis Center.
"I thought it was a really good performance from our girls with it being the third match in three days, they came out strong," coach Chris Young said. "I think a couple of them had to dig deep from a physical standpoint of battling through some soreness and they did a good job."
The No. 12 Cowgirls got off to a hot start by taking the doubles point in under 30 minutes.
Katarina Adamovic and Vladica Babic defeated Miranda Talbert and Dorottya Jonas on court three, 6-1.
The No. 23 pairing of Viktoriya Lushkova and Carla Tur Mari recorded a win on court two, 6-2, against Elisa Koonik and Tess van Der Ploeg.
The No. 9 tandem of Maria Alvarez and Kelsey Laurente competed together for the first time this spring. The seniors closed out the doubles portion of play with a, 6-3, victory against Magdalena Stencel and Nastya Tokareva.
The Cowgirls continued to dominate in the singles portion of play.
No. 46 Lushkova extended the Cowgirl lead with the first singles finish on court three while only surrendering a single set point, winning, 6-0, 6-1.
Cowgirl freshman Katarina Stresnakova provided the third point of the night on court five, defeating Wyoming's Talbert, 6-1, 6-0.
Laurente clinched the match for the Pokes on court four without giving up a single set point. The senior, ranked No. 89 by the ITA, took down van Der Ploeg in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.
Tur Mari defeated Koonik on court six, 6-3, 6-3, for the Cowgirls' fifth point of the match.
No. 38 Babic earned a win on court two with a, 6-3, 6-2, win over Tokareva.
Adamovic, No. 27 in the ITA rankings, capped off the perfect night for the Cowgirls by defeating Stencel on court one, winning, 6-3, 6-3.
"I think Wyoming is a well coached team that came in here and gave us a good match, I expect them to have a good rest of the season," Young said. "I thought our girls played really well tonight, we're excited to move forward now and prepare for the ITA Kickoff weekend."
The Cowgirls will return to action on January 23 against Notre Dame inside the Greenwood Tennis Center at 1 p.m.
