November 14, 2015 | Cowboy Tennis
FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. – Oklahoma State's Arjun Kadhe and Julian Cash wrapped up the fall season for the Cowboys on Saturday at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships in Flushing Meadows, New York.
The Cowboy duo resumed play in the consolation round this morning against Columbia's Michal Rolski/Mike Vermeer for a spot in the back draw final.
After dropping the first set, Kadhe/Cash were poised to rebound, as they took a 5-4 lead in the second. But the Columbia tandem battled back against the Cowboys by squaring the set at six games apiece to force a tiebreak.
In the tiebreak, both teams exchanged the first few points, but the Cowboys got on a roll by winning four-straight points to lead, 6-3. Kadhe/Cash had Rolski/Vermmer on their heels, but the Columbia duo took six of the final seven points to win the set and match, 6-4, 7-6(7).
"It was a fun tournament to play," coach Jay Udwadia said. "We got some good quality matches this week, which will help Arjun and Julian this spring."
Even with the loss, Kadhe/Cash had one of the more impressive fall seasons in Cowboy history. The All-American duo compiled 11 victories in the fall, including wins against the No. 5, No. 16 and No. 20-ranked doubles teams.
Also, the Cowboy duo brought home the back draw title from the ITA All-American Championships, while also making a finals appearance at the ITA Central Regional Championships.
The spring season looks bright for the Pokes, as the Cowboys combined to win two singles titles, one team title and one doubles title in the fall.
"I know (Arjun and Julian) are looking forward to playing hard this spring," Udwadia said.
