Cowgirls Pull Away From Lamar, Win Season Opener, 90-45

STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma State's women's basketball opened its 2015-16 season in dominating fashion on Friday as the Cowgirls defeated Lamar, 90-45, in front of 3,591 fans inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.
With the victory, OSU (1-0; 0-0 Big 12) has now won 10 consecutive home openers. The Cowgirls also improved to 7-0 all-time against Lamar (0-1; 0-0 SLC).
Senior Brittney Martin filled up the stat sheet and recorded her 18th career double-double in the game, tying her with Liz Donohoe for eighth most in OSU history. She finished the game with 12 points, 14 rebounds, two assists, two blocks and a team-high six steals.
After finishing the first quarter knotted at 20 apiece, the Cowgirls found their rhythm in the second, outscoring the Cardinals 22-10 in the period. OSU head Lamar to 15 points in the second half, including just six in the final quarter.
The Cowgirls opened the quarter with an 8-2 run to jump out in front by six. OSU also kept Lamar off the scoreboard for a four-minute stretch in the quarter that resulted in a 12-0 run to push the Cowgirls out in front by 15. Lamar ended its scoreless streak with just over a minute remaining, but OSU went into the half up, 42-30.
Senior Roddricka Patton opened the second half with one of her 11 assists as she found senior Kaylee Jensen for the layup.
Two early fouls limited Jensen to just seven minutes in the first half, but she still put up career highs for points (21), field goals made (7) and free throws made (7). Jensen also grabbed 5 rebounds and blocked 2 shots.
Sophomore Mandy Coleman was one of five Cowgirls to score in double figures as she chipped in with a career-high 15 points. Coleman also grabbed nine rebounds as she came up just short of her first career double-double.
Jentry Holt, Latashia Jones, Karli Wheeler and Alana Simon all made their first appearances with the Cowgirls in the game's first quarter.
OSU shot 54 percent (33-61) for the game. Under head coach Jim Littell, the Cowgirls are now 21-2 when shooting at least 50 percent.
The contest also marked OSU's third annual Cowgirl Class at the Court. More than 2,000 kids from 3rd through 8th grade representing 22 schools attended the event.
OSU's next game will be on Tuesday, Nov. 17, as the Cowgirls take on Texas Southern inside Gallagher-Iba Arena at 7 p.m.
