Cowgirl Equestrian Preview: Kansas State
October 07, 2015 | Cowgirl Equestrian
Meet Notes: Kansas State
STILLWATER – Cowgirl Equestrian looks to stay unbeaten as it travels to Manhattan, Kansas, Saturday to face Big 12 Conference foe Kansas State.
"The team has been working very hard and are excited about this upcoming meet," OSU head coach Larry Sanchez said.
Sanchez is looking to build off the momentum generated from OSU's 13-6 victory in the season opener against SMU.
Carly Barrick and Brenna Brawner aim to continue their successful starts to the season into Saturday's meet. Both riders finished with Most Outstanding Player honors in the win over SMU.
Barrick finished with scores of 82 in Equitation on the Flat and 80 in Equitation over Fences, and Brawner posted a 72.5 in Reining, all of which were high scores in their respective events.
The Cowgirls did not lose a single category to SMU last Saturday, winning 3-2 in Equitation on the Flat, 4-1 in Horsemanship, 4-1 in Reining and tying 2-2 in Equitation over Fences. The team plans to replicate that success against their Big 12 counterpart on Saturday.
"K-State is a very good team with a great coaching staff," Sanchez said. "We are going to have to ride well and with no mistakes."
Historically, the Cowgirls have fared well against Kansas State, posting a 20-9 all-time record against the Wildcats.
The trip to Manhattan marks the first conference meet of the year for the Cowgirls.
