TULSA – Oklahoma State duos Lucas Gerch/Jurence Mendoza and Tristan Meraut/Nathan Roper started doubles play in the qualifying draw on Tuesday at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Gerch/Mendoza began the day in the Round of 128, as they looked to join teammates Meruat/Roper in the Round of 64. The Cowboy duo faced Michael Genender/Sameer Kumar of Stanford and didn't look back, defeating the Cardinal duo, 6-4, 6-1, to advance to the next round.
In the Round of 64, Gerch/Mendoza faced Ohio State's Hugo di Feo/Chris Diaz and would go into to a match tiebreaking third set. The Cowboys continued their winning ways by taking the match after winning the ultimate tiebreak, 6-4, 2-6, 1-0(5).
Meanwhile, Pokes Meraut/Roper got caught in a battle with Stanford duo Nolan Paige/David Wilczynski in the Round of 64. Paige/Wilczynski took the Oklahoma State duo to tiebreak in the first set, but Meraut/Roper followed a tough first set win with a second set victory, winning the match, 7-6(1), 6-4, respectively.
In singles play, Cowboys Arjun Kadhe and Gerch looked to continue their winning ways in the second round of the singles qualifying draw.
Kadhe faced Constantin Schmitz of Tulane this morning and couldn't get going, falling in straight-sets, 6-4, 6-1.
Gerch went head-to-head with Loyola Marymount's Cristobal Rivera in a three set thriller. After exchanging set wins, the third set was a back-and-forth affair, as Rivera needed an extra game to defeat the Cowboy, 4-6, 6-4, 7-5.
After being eliminated from the singles qualifying bracket yesterday, Julian Cash bounced back in the consolation bracket by defeating Alex Gornet of Louisville, 6-1, 6-4.
In doubles play tomorrow, Meraut/Roper will take on Tulane's Chi-Shan Jao/Dominik Koepfer and Gerch/Mendoza will battle against Terrance Whitehurst/Terrell Whitehurst in the Round of 32.
