October 05, 2015 | Cowboy Tennis
TULSA – Cowboys Lucas Gerch and Arjun Kadhe took care of business on Monday by winning their opening-round matchups at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Gerch entered the qualifying draw as the No. 15 seed and faced Kennesaw State's Simon Pritchard in the first round. The junior took the first set handedly, but Pritchard responded with a second set win. The match came down to the third set where Gerch made sure he wouldn't have a first round exit, as he defeated Pritchard, 6-2, 2-6, 6-4.
Earlier in the day, ninth-seeded Arjun Kadhe found himself in a battle after dropping the first set to Ryan Peniston of Memphis. The All-American responded with victories in the second and third sets to defeat the Tiger, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4, to advance to the second round of the qualifying draw.
Oklahoma State's Julian Cash went head-to-head with TCU's Jerry Lopez this afternoon. The sophomore took the first set, but couldn't keep the momentum, as he lost the final two sets, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.
Cowboy Tristan Meraut came up short in the pre-qualifying bracket finals to Purdue's Ricky Medinilla, 7-5, 2-6, 6-4, this morning.
In the second round tomorrow, Kadhe will have a matchup with Tulane's Constantin Schmitz at 8 a.m. and Gerch will face-off against Cristobal Rivera of Loyola Marymount at 11:30 a.m.
