Cowboy Duo Advances To Finals At Larry Easley Memorial Classic

LAS VEGAS – Cowboy duo Jurence Mendoza/Nathan Roper advanced to the doubles final on Saturday with back-to-back victories in the quarterfinals and semifinals at the Larry Easley Memorial Classic, hosted by UNLV.
The two juniors first doubles match came against Oregon's Ethan Young-Smith/Jayson Amos in the quarterfinals, after receiving a bye in the first round. Mendoza/Roper got themselves locked in a close one with the Oregon duo, but would prevail by taking the quarterfinals match, 8-6.
In the semifinals, the Oklahoma State tandem had to face UNLV's Ruben Alberts/Jakob Amilon for a chance to reach the finals. Even with the home court advantage, the Rebel duo couldn't handle the Cowboys, as Mendoza/Roper dominated their semifinals match, 8-3.
Prior to doubles play, Mendoza was looking for a bid to the singles championship in Flight One, as he went head-to-head with Alexsandr Cozbinov of UNLV in the semifinals. The junior took a hard earned first set, but would lose the next two, falling to Cozbinov, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.
Tomorrow, the Cowboys will look to bring home their first title from the Larry Easley Memorial Classic since Rifat Biktyakov took the Flight One singles championship in 2012. Mendoza/Roper will battle Oregon duo Bartosz Swaicki/Cormac Clissold in the finals tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. (PT).
