Kadhe And Cash Finish Runner-Up At ITA Regional Championships
October 19, 2015 | Cowboy Tennis
FAYETTEVILLE – Oklahoma State's Julian Cash and Arjun Kadhe fell in the singles and doubles main draw finals at the ITA Central Regional Championships on Monday in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
"I'm so proud of Julian and Arjun's performance throughout the whole tournament," coach Jay Udwadia said. "We had a very solid regional overall."
The sophomore Cash looked to become the first Cowboy to win the singles main draw at the ITA Central Regional Championships, since three-time All-American Oleksandr Nedovyesov in 2009. The only person standing in his way was Oklahoma's Alex Ghilea.
In the first set, Cash battled with the Sooner, but would lose the set, 6-4. The All-American came back stronger than ever in the second set with an impressive win. It all came down to the third set, where Ghilea proved to be too much for the Cowboy, winning the match, 6-4, 5-7, 6-2.
Soon after, the No. 14-ranked doubles duo in the nation Kadhe/Cash looked to take the doubles title at the Regional, as they were set to face Matic Spec/Felix Corwin of Minnesota.
The Cowboy duo went back-and-forth with Spec/Corwin in the first set, as they went into a tiebreaker for the set. Unfortunately, the Golden Gopher tandem took the tiebreak to win the first set. In the second, Kadhe/Cash dominated by not surrendering a game and taking the set, 6-0, to force an ultimate tiebreaker for the title. All-Americans Kadhe/Cash put up an amazing effort in the tiebreaker, but would fall short to Minnesota's Spec/Corwin, 7-6(2), 0-6, 1-0 (10-6).
"Minnesota's doubles team played very well today," Udwadia said. "It comes down to a couple points with how fast these courts were playing and how well they played at the end."
Oklahoma State's tennis squad put up one of the most impressive ITA Regional Championship showings in the team history, as five players reached the Sweet 16. Also, on day two of the tournament the team finished 11-0 with four doubles victories and seven singles wins.
After a week off, the Cowboys will be back in action, when they head to Las Vegas, Nevada, for the UNLV Invite on Oct. 30-Nov. 1.
