Cowgirls Continue Winning Ways in Regional

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State women's tennis continued its impressive run of play while hosting the ITA Central Regional at the Greenwood Tennis Center.
In two rounds of singles play, the Cowgirls recorded 10 victories, bringing the team total to 18 wins through two days of competition.
"Tomorrow's a new day and we know there's going to be some tough matches tomorrow, but I'm really proud of the way the girls are competing," coach Chris Young said.
No. 12 Viktoriya Lushkova played her first singles match of the tournament after receiving a bye in the first round. The junior All-American defeated Valentia Gisbert of Oral Roberts in straight sets. Lushkova put on a dominant performance to begin the day, only allowing one point in both sets combined, winning 6-1, 6-0.
In her second match of the day, Lushkova put together another strong performance, winning in straight sets against Cassidy Spearman of Missouri, 6-3, 6-2. With the win, Lushkova advances to the next round of the main draw, where she will face Summer Collins of Kansas.
Senior Cowgirl Kelsey Laurente also picked up two wins on the second day of competition. Laurente quickly picked up her first win against Brianna Lashway of Missouri, 6-2, 6-1.
The win moved Laurente into a matchup against Ana Oparenovic of Arkansas. Laurente exhibited great determination in the straight set victory, 6-4, 6-1.
A few courts down, Katarina Adamovic added to the Cowgirl win total. Adamovic defeated Martha Matoula of Tulsa, 6-1, 6-3. The Cowgirl also added a second victory in impressive fashion against Maggy Lehmicke of Nebraska on court six, 6-2, 6-1.
Adamovic will face Ksenia Laskutova of Tulsa in the next round.
Vladica Babic earned a hard-fought victory in her opening match of day two. The sophomore defeated Janet Koch of Kansas. The first set came down to a tiebreaker, with the Cowgirl coming out on top, 7-6 (2). The second set was much more decisive as Montenegro native won, 6-3, to secure the victory.
Babic later defeated Luca Pump of Wichita State in two sets, 7-5, 6-1. She will face Nina Khmelnitckaia of Kansas on Saturday.
Maria Alvarez defeated Tess Herder (Drake) in a dominant straight set performance, winning 6-2, 6-1. Alvarez dropped a tough match to Gabriela Porubin of Wichita State in the third round, 6-4, 6-2.
Carla Tur Mari opened the day with a victory against McKenzie Thomas of Southern Illinois-Edwardsville in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3. Tur Mari fell in a close match against Julia Schiller (WSU), 6-3, 6-2.
The Cowgirls will continue action on Saturday inside the Greenwood Tennis Center, with two rounds of doubles and one round of singles.
