Cowgirls Perfect On Opening Day of Regional

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State women's tennis put together a stellar performance on the opening day of the ITA Central Regional.
"Overall it was a great day, anytime you win all of your matches on opening day it's a good way to start the tournament," coach Chris Young said. "I'm excited with the way our girls started."
The Cowgirls began the day in doubles, where all three Cowgirl pairings advanced to Saturday's round of 16.
The No. 35 pairing of Katarina Adamovic and Vladica Babic received a first round bye, before facing Emma Kranendonk/Yuliya Sidenko of South Dakota. The Cowgirls had no problem getting past the Coyotes, 8-2.
Carla Tur Mari and Viktoriya Lushkova also had a bye to begin the day. In their lone doubles match on Thursday, the No. 36 Cowgirls defeated Ana Garcia-Navas/Iva Bago of Kansas State, 8-3.
The senior duo of Kelsey Laurente and Maria Alvarez played two doubles matches on the day and only allowed four points in both matches combined. Laurente and Alvarez recorded a clean sweep against McKenzie Thomas/Ann-Christine Link of Southern Illinois-Edwardsville in their first match. The duo strung together another impressive performance in a victory against in state rivals Emma Devine/Malene Strip of Oklahoma, 8-4.
OSU won all four doubles matches on Thursday.
"Obviously playing at home and playing in front of some of our fans on our home courts, we want to protect that and play with a lot of pride," Young said.
The winning ways continued for the Cowgirls in singles action.
Tur Mari earned a quick victory in straight sets over Sofia Krsmanovic of Arkansas State, 6-2, 6-0. Tur Mari will face McKenzie Thomas (SIUE) in second round of the main draw for singles.
Laurente earned the Cowgirls a second singles victory against the Red Wolves, as she defeated Julie Gauguery, 6-1, 6-2. Laurente will face Brianna Lashway of Missouri in the next round.
Adamovic showed poise and determination in her comeback victory against Lexi Aranda (SIUE). After dropping the first set, 3-6. Adamovic responded by winning the second set, 6-3, and putting on a dominant performance in the third and final set, winning 6-1.
Capping off the day for the Cowgirls was Alvarez, who put on an impressive performance in front of her teammates. Alvarez defeated Kelsey King of Saint Louis, 6-1, 6-2, to give the Cowgirls a record of eight wins with no losses on the day.
Lushkova and Babic both had byes on the first day of singles action and will begin play in the main draw on Friday.
