All-American Cowboy Duo Takes Back Draw Title
October 11, 2015 | Cowboy Tennis
TULSA – Cowboy duo Julian Cash/Arjun Kadhe won the doubles back draw championship at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Sunday.
"After a slow start in this tournament, Arjun and Julian played better with each matchup, especially in the end," coach Jay Udwadia said. "I'm proud of the effort they brought to each match throughout the week."
The Oklahoma State tandem had an early start this morning, as they were set to face Skander Mansouri/Christian Seraphim of Wake Forest in the semifinals.
Cash/Kadhe took control of the first set early by winning four of their first six games and eventually taking the set, 6-4. In the second, Mansouri/Seraphim would put up a fight, but the Cowboy All-American tandem was too much to handle, as they defeated the No. 5-ranked Wake Forest duo, 6-4, 6-4.
The semifinals victory gave the Oklahoma State duo a spot in the back draw finals, where they would go head-to-head with Virginia Tech's Andreas Bjerrehus/Joao Monteiro.
No. 14-ranked Cash/Kadhe would start right where they left off in their semifinals match with a dominant showing in the first set of the finals. A strong serve from Cash clinched the first set for the Cowboy duo.
After exchanging games for most of the second set, Cash/Kadhe won the three of the final four games to defeat the Virginia Tech duo, 6-3, 6-3. A finals victory guarantees the Oklahoma State duo a spot in the National ITA Indoor Championships.
"It will be great to have these two (Cash and Kadhe) represent Oklahoma State in the National Indoors," Udwadia said.
Oklahoma State's men's tennis squad will be back in action next week for the ITA Central Regional in Fayetteville, Arkansas on Oct. 15-19.
