January 05, 2015 | Cowboy Tennis
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State men's tennis coach and his squad welcome three new players this spring, all of which are expected to play during the 2015 spring campaign.
“We have 10 players this spring that can all play at a high level,” Cowboy tennis coach Jay Udwadia said. “It's one of the deepest teams I've had, which makes me very excited about the upcoming season.”
Trent Botha of Cape Town, South Africa, who signed earlier this summer, will be joined by Leonard Gerch and Tristan Meraut.
Leonard Gerch comes to Oklahoma State from Berlin, Germany, where he was a five-time Berlin Junior Champion. The 6'2”, right-handed German is the brother of Cowboy sophomore Lucas Gerch and plans to study industrial engineering.
“Leonard comes from a great family, and it's nice to be able to have brother as a teammate,” Udwadia said. “Leo has a lot of experience as he's a little older. He's certainly going to add depth to our lineup. We feel that he can play at a very high level.”
Meraut joins the Cowboys from Paris, France. A top junior in his age group growing up, Meraut is currently ranked No. 1592 in the ATP World Rankings.
“Tristan has a big upside in his game with big game style. He's someone who has all the shots and is very athletic,” Udwadia said. “We are very happy to have him as an addition to our team. We're looking forward to developing him into a great player and a player that will help our program grow.”
The Cowboys will begin the season on Jan. 17 as they take on Nebraska at 1:30 p.m. at the Michael and Anne Greenwood Tennis Center in Stillwater, Okla.
