Cowgirl Softball Set To Take On Southern Nazarene
September 29, 2014 | Cowgirl Softball
The Oklahoma State Cowgirl softball team will host the Southern Nazarene Crimson Storm in a fall exhibition game Tuesday night at the Cowgirl Softball Complex. First pitch is set for 7 p.m., and admission is free.
After opening its fall slate with a 12-1 rout over Eastern Oklahoma State, OSU took down Northern Oklahoma College-Enid last Wednesday. In the Cowgirls' latest ten-inning affair, freshman Vanessa Shippy went 4-for-6 with two runs scored and two runs batted in, while fellow freshman Jessi Haffner tacked on her second home run of the fall.
On the mound, Brandi Needham and Peyton Walker combined to allow only two hits over the first five innings, keeping the Crimson Storm scoreless through the first half of the scrimmage. Meagan Lively struck out four over the next three frames, while Haffner retired six-consecutive batters to close out the final two innings.
Southern Nazarene returns nine players from its 2014 spring campaign, when the Crimson Storm posted a 19-34 season in Division II play and a 12-26 mark in the Great American Conference. Outfielder Kylie Lang heads into her senior year with three-consecutive All-GAC honors, and pitcher Kayla Wyatt returns to the circle after striking out a conference-leading 204 batters last season.
