Cowgirls Finish Off NOC-Enid, 7-2

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State freshman Vanessa Shippy went 4-for-6 with two runs and two runs batted in, and fellow freshman Jessi Haffner hit a solo home run to get the scoring started as the Cowgirl softball team defeated NOC-Enid 7-2 here Wednesday night in fall softball action.
Haffner's homer led off the bottom of the second for the Cowgirls, who led 6-0 after six innings. OSU scored three runs on three hits in the bottom of the fifth, including a two-run single by Shippy. Freshman Mallory Collins later doubled down the leftfield line, scoring Shippy.
Oklahoma State added two more runs in the sixth. Senior Shelby Davis led off with a bunt single and was quickly on second with a stolen base. After advancing to third on an infield single by Shippy, Davis scored on a sacrifice fly by Danielle Riddle.
The Jets scored their only runs of the game in the top half of the seventh. With two outs, Brooke Tate reached first when Haffner bobbled the throw from third. Payton Calhoun hit a home run off Meagan Lively over the leftfield fence, trimming the score to 6-2 Cowgirls.
OSU added an insurance run in the bottom of the ninth. With two outs, freshman Maddi Holcomb reach on a throwing error by the Jet shortstop and advanced to second when the throw went out of play. A wild pitch moved her to third, and Miranda Cavin singled up the middle, scoring Holcomb and giving the Cowgirls a 7-2 victory.
Oklahoma State (2-0 in fall play) will host Southern Nazarene in a 10-inning game on Tuesday, Sept. 30, at 6 pm at the Cowgirl Softball Complex.
