Cowboy Tennis Completes Second Day of Napa Invitational
September 13, 2014 | Cowboy Tennis
NAPA, Calif. -
Oklahoma State sophomores Lucas Gerch and Nathan Roper tallied their first singles victories of the year on Saturday, highlighting the Cowboys' second day of fall competition at the Napa Invitational in Napa, Calif.
After coming up short in a tight three-set battle on Friday, Gerch rebounded by taking down UNLV's Ace Matias, 6-1, 7-5. Roper followed suit by recording a straight sets victory of his own, as the Edmond, Okla., native powered past Pepperdine's Logan Hall, 6-1, 6-2.
The two then teamed up in doubles play, but were unable to repeat Friday's winning performance, as the Cowboy tandem fell to Fresno State's doubles squad of Eric Komati and Evan McIntosh, 8-5.
The Cowboys will wrap up their stay at the tournament with two matches on Sunday. Gerch will take on Komati in singles play before joining Roper in a doubles match against Pacific's Daniel Alameh and Alex Hamilton.
After tomorrow's matches, OSU will return home to Stillwater to prepare for next weekend's Cajun Invite in Lafayette, La.
