September 12, 2014 | Cowgirl Basketball
CHICAGO - With its 87-82 victory over the Chicago Sky tonight, the Phoenix Mercury secured the third WNBA title in franchise history.
Former Oklahoma State guard Tiffany Bias was a rookie for a Phoenix squad that capped off a historic campaign with its first championship since 2009. The Mercury posted a 29-5 mark on the year to set a league record for wins in a season.
Phoenix rolled through the playoffs, sweeping its conference semifinal matchup with Los Angeles before winning its conference finals series with Minnesota in three games. The Mercury then swept Chicago in the best-of-five Finals to cap their season.
Bias, a two-time All-American for the Cowgirls, saw action in four of those playoff games, including two of the three Finals tilts. The Andover, Kan., native registered one rebound and one assist during the postseason.
During the regular season, Bias played in 17 contests and averaged 1.1 points, 0.3 steals, 0.4 assists and 0.2 rebounds per contest.
