Up Next ... Roddricka Patton
September 11, 2014 | Cowgirl Basketball
Each of the past five basketball seasons have finished with Roddricka Patton cutting down the nets. The first-year Cowgirl finished her prep career with three consecutive state titles at Neches (Texas) High School. The 5-4 point guard earned state tournament MVP honors all three years.
The past two seasons at Trinity Valley Community College resulted in 36-1 records and consecutive national championships. Patton was named to the all-tournament team following her most recent title after finishing with 11 assists and six steals in the championship game.
How did you wind up at OSU?
"My junior college stopped here on the way to the national tournament and I fell in love with the coaches, the court and everything else. When I came on my official visit, I connected with the team. I felt like this was where I was supposed to be."
Being at Trinity Valley how much did you know about Coach Budke and what he did there and at OSU building both programs?
"They talked about him on my visit there and talked about him all the time really. I feel like it is like Trinity Valley here with all the nice people and I feel like I chose the right place."
Of the five times you cut down the nets is one more special than the others?
"My sophomore year of junior college because I had to lead the team. My freshman year, we had so many guards and they started. When they left, I had to step my game up and lead my team to the national championship. I feel like that is the best one."
Something about you OSU fans would be surprised to know is?
"Since I am so little people would be surprised to know how big I play."
"I also ride horses. We grew up around horses. Since I was little I have ridden horses."
How did you get started with basketball?
"My mom. I grew up with a ball in my hand. When I was a baby I always had a ball in my hand. I have been playing since I was four years old."
