Cowgirls Lose To Fifth-Ranked Florida

With the loss, OSU fell to 0-4-0 on the season, while the Gators are now 3-1-0.
The Cowgirls, playing without two of their starting forwards as well as a key reserve at the position due to injury, were outshot in the contest by a 16-8 margin and shut out for the second time this season.
“We keep losing players in the attacking third and lost another one today so we're moving defenders and midfielders into attacking positions and it shows,” said OSU head coach Colin Carmichael. “The effort is there, the kids are trying hard. The score line flattered Florida. At 2-0, we put up another attacking kid to try and cause them trouble so that's on us. I told the kids the score line at the end is irrelevant because we have to go try and score.
“But looking at the statistics in this one, it's a lot more of a game than Friday night (vs. Florida State), it just didn't show on the scoreboard.”
Florida wasted little time in taking an early lead as just 2:11 into the match, Tessa Andujar delivered a cross into the box that Havana Solaun sent to the far post to give the Gators a 1-0 lead.
That score remained at intermission as UF outshot the Cowgirls by a 6-1 margin in the game's first 45 minutes.
OSU's attack picked up in the second half and created several scoring chances. The first of those came just under 10 minutes in when Allie Stephenson blasted a shot from 35-yards out that was saved over the crossbar by UF goalie Valerie Tysinger.
In the 71st minute, it was Miriam Rhinehart with an opportunity for the Cowgirls after she received a cross from Niki McKnight before sending her chance over the goal.
Minutes later, Florida doubled its lead when All-American Savannah Jordan found the back of the net from five-yards out off another assist by Andujar.
The Gators added a pair of late goals in the 87th and 90th minutes to finish off the victory.
OSU looks to get in the win column next weekend at the Sun Devil Desert Classic in Tempe, Ariz. The Cowgirls will face tourney host Arizona State Friday at 6 p.m. (CST) before a Sunday match against Arizona.
