BATON ROUGE, La. - The Oklahoma State softball team dropped two games this evening here at the Tiger Classic. In the first game the Cowgirls fell to Murray State 10-6 and then dropped a battle with No. 17 LSU, 1-0.
In the first game, Murray State got off to an early 4-0 lead, aided by two OSU errors.
In the bottom of the inning, the Cowgirls got a run back when sophomore Tiffany Mikkelson singled to right center, scoring senior Ari Morrison.
Murray State (2-2) picked up another run in the top of the third inning when Casey Castile scored on a single by Jessica Twaddle. The Racers then scored five more runs in the top of the seventh to make it 10-1.
The Cowgirls continued to battle back. In the bottom of the fifth, OSU picked up two runs when junior Shelby Davis scored on a single by Mikkelson. Mikkelson then scored a few batters later when sophomore Danielle Riddle grounded out to the pitcher to make the score 10-3.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, OSU scored two more runs when Morrison reached on a fielder's choice, scoring junior Gessenia DeLaCruz from third. Two batters later, Mikkelson would walk with the bases loaded, scoring Davis.
The final run for the Cowgirls came in the bottom of the seventh inning when sophomore Shianne Hughes scored on an infield single by Davis. That was all the Cowgirls would score in that inning and would fall by the final score of 10-6.
Offensively, the Cowgirls had nine hits. Davis went 3-for-5 and Mikkelson went 2-for-3. Morrison, Riddle, DeLaCruz and senior Shannon Kaufman all had one hit apiece for OSU.
