MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Oklahoma State's women's tennis team wrapped up its weekend in Minneapolis, Minn., with a 7-0 victory over the Oregon Ducks on Saturday afternoon.
The 29th-ranked Cowgirls (3-3) picked up the doubles point with wins on one and two. The Cowgirl tandem of Viktoriya Lushkova and Kanyapat Narattana picked up its fourth win of the spring season on one, defeating Oregon's Nicole Long and Jasmine Minor, 8-2.
Carla Tur Mari and Maria Alvarez snagged the victory on two in another 8-2 match over Marlou Kluiving and Lina Akesson of Oregon to clinch the point for Oklahoma State.
The Cowgirls were unstoppable in singles on Saturday, not giving up a single set to the Ducks.
Lushkova led the way for the Cowgirls in singles play. The freshman upended 119th-ranked Nicole Long of Oregon on one in a dominant 6-1, 6-2 triumph to pick up her fifth straight win and stretch the Cowgirl lead to two. Narattana turned in an excellent performance on Saturday as well, knocking off Oregon's Sofia Hager, 6-0, 6-1, on three.
The Cowgirl victory was sealed on five when Karyn Guttormsen downed Lana Buttner, 6-1, 6-3, in the junior's fifth win of the spring season.
After the match was clinched, Megan McCray, Carla Tur Mari and Maria Alvarez all picked up wins. McCray continued her hot streak by defeating Jasmine Minor in the second singles spot, 6-1, 6-4.
"It was another solid performance for our girls," Cowgirl tennis coach Chris Young said. "We are improving every match and I look forward to working with them this week in preparation for the Blue-Gray event next weekend."
The Cowgirls will travel to Montgomery, Ala., next weekend to compete at the Blue-Gray National Tennis Classic. Action at the event is set to begin on Friday, Feb. 21, and wrap up on Sunday, Feb. 23.
