All In The Family
December 31, 2014 | Cowgirl Basketball
Oklahoma State fans are familiar with the last name Chelf, and have associated it with football Saturdays at Boone Pickens Stadium, where former Cowboy, Colton and Clint Chelf, used to play.
All that has changed now, with the youngest Chelf, Courtney, playing her games in Gallagher-Iba Arena for the Cowgirl basketball team.
"It's been an awesome, great experience. I wanted to come to school here at OSU because my brothers did, my entire family did," Chelf said. I just knew it was the place for me."
Having two brothers attend the university before her, life at Oklahoma State was an easy transition for Courtney.
"Last year Clint helped me a lot. He would come to the arena with me to help me with my shooting and getting some shots up," Chelf said.
Now in her sophomore year, Chelf likes to keep her routine nice and simple.
"Three times a week we will have lift at 7:30. I'll do that, then shower, go to class, grab lunch and then head to practice," Chelf said.
And the Cowgirls all share one common goal for the season at hand.
"We just want to keep winning and take it one step at a time," Chelf said. "We would like to advance past the Sweet 16 and make it farther than we did last year, but in order to get there we are just going to take things one step at a time and focus on our next opponent."
When it comes down to it, there is one part about being a Cowgirl that stands above the rest for Chelf.
"Nothing can compare to getting to play the game I love around my teammates and coaches," Chelf said. "It's like one big family here."
"I've made relationships that will last a lifetime here", Chelf explained. "Our chemistry is really good and the coaches are really nice. They are always there for you to talk to."
When asked who the most athletic member of her family was, there was no hesitation...
"Me."
The Cowgirls will begin Big 12 play on Saturday at 11 a.m. when they travel to Waco, Texas to face Baylor.
