STILLWATER, Okla. - "How I Got Here" is a series that asks Oklahoma State athletes to detail their athletic background and careers and how they got to where they are now. Today's edition features men's tennis player Jurence Mendoza, a sophomore from Olongapo City, Phillipines.
When did you start playing tennis?
"I started playing tennis when I was 10 years old. Our family friend invited us to play for a hobby and it was also a good way for me to stay active."
Who is your favorite tennis athlete?
"Rafael Nadal because he's a lefty, and I like how he's a fighter and never gives up."
Why OSU?
"This was the best place to improve my tennis career and also the best place for me to get my degree."
What's your major?
"I am studying management."
What are your goals?
"I'd like to maximize my potential and try to get better every day. Also, I want to do my best in my studies, so that if tennis doesn't work out I'll have a second option. And of course, I would like to represent the program, do well in the NCAAs and get a good ranking."
