STILLWATER, Okla. - "How I Got Here" is a series that asks Oklahoma State athletes to detail their athletic background and careers and how they got to where they are now. Today's edition features men's tennis player Lukas Finzelberg, a redshirt freshman from Stuttgart, Germany.
When did you start playing tennis?
“I started playing tennis when I was about 4 years old. My grandpa died pretty early and one of my grandma's friends would take me and my brother on court, and we started to play over benches because we were too small to play with a net.”
Who was your favorite tennis player growing up?
“Probably Roger Federer. He's probably the best tennis player ever, and he plays like it's nothing. His game looks so good when he plays.”
Why did you choose OSU?
“It was pretty important for me that I knew someone on a college team because I'm kind of shy. I knew Jakob (Sude) and that helped a lot. I was here last fall for a visit and I saw campus and really like it. The new tennis facilities were awesome, too, and that's why I chose it.”
What do you hope to achieve while at OSU?
“I think we are a really good team so I hope that we can achieve a top-16 ranking during the spring. I want the team to get into the Sweet 16, and I think we are talented enough to get there. For myself, I want to get into the NCAA singles tournament before my college career is over.”
