Cowboy Pair Named Academic All-District

STILLWATER — Oklahoma State junior Christien Sager and sophomore Phil Forte have been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 7 team for NCAA Division I, it was announced today. Both are now eligible for Academic All-America honors.
Sager, a native of Wichita Falls, Texas, has maintained a perfect 4.0 grade point average while majoring in electrical engineer at Oklahoma State. He has played in 16 games this season for the Cowboys and has 43 games played in his career. He played 18 minutes at Oklahoma on Monday, recording four rebounds, two points and two steals. Sager was a first-team Academic All-Big 12 selection as a sophomore.
Forte, a native of Flower Mound, Texas, has maintained a 3.41 GPA in marketing at Oklahoma State. He averages 22.3 minutes per game off the bench for the Cowboys and is averaging 13 points per game this season. He leads the Big 12 in free-throw percentage (91.8 percent), three-point field-goal percentage (49.6 percent) and three-point field-goals made per game (3.0). He has five 20-point games this season, including a season-high 23 at Kansas.
Forte and Sager are the fourth and fifth Academic All-District selections in Cowboy Basketball history. The previous recipients were: Gary Hassman in 1964, Joe Smith in 1969 and Fredrik Jönzén in 2002.
The pair of Cowboys are joined on the District 7 Academic team by Abilene Christian's Parker Wentz (3.90 GPA in pre-dentistry/biology), Nebraska's Shavon Shields (3.77 GPA in microbiology), and Montana's Jordan Gregory (3.69 GPA in psychology).
