Oklahoma State travels to Morgantown, W. Va., this weekend as the Cowboys face the West Virginia Mountaineers on Saturday, Jan. 11, inside the WVU Coliseum. Tipoff is set for 3 pm and the game will be televised on the Big 12 Network. OSU is 2-1 all-time against the Mountaineers, sweeping WVU in its inaugural season in the Big 12 Conference.
About Oklahoma State
The 11th-ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys are 13-2 this season following an 87-74 win over Texas on Wednesday in Stillwater. OSU is averaging nearly 86 points per game this season with four players averaging double figures. Marcus Smart leads the scoring attack with 17.5 ppg, among the leaders in the Big 12 Conference. Markel Brown is also among the league leaders, averaging 17.1 ppg, while Le'Bryan Nash (13.2 ppg) and Phil Forte (12.5 ppg) are both also averaging double figures.
OSU is shooting 49.4% from the floor, including 37.8% from beyond the arc. The Cowboys have a scoring margin of 20.7 points per game, leading the league. About West Virginia
West Virginia is 10-5 overall this season and 2-0 in Big 12 action following a two-game road swing through Texas. The Mountaineers defeated TCU 74-69 and Texas Tech 89-86 in overtime. WVU is led by Eron Harris who is second in the league in scoring at 18.5 ppg. Juwan Staten is sixth in the Big 12 at 16.8 ppg. Terry Henderson is also averaging double figures at 11.3 ppg while Devin Williams is just below at 9.9 ppg.
As a team, West Virginia is averaging 81.1 ppg with a +12.5 scoring margin. The Mountaineers are shooting 46.8% from the floor, including 39.8% from long range. They are second in the league in turnover margin (+4.8). Bob Huggins is the head coach and is 143-80 in his seventh season at West Virginia.
Series History vs Texas
Oklahoma State leads the all-time series with West Virginia 2-1, including a season sweep last season. In the only other meeting between these two schools, the Mountaineers defeated the Cowboys 67-49 in the Kentucky Tournament in Lexington, Ky., on Dec. 19, 1958.
Last Season vs the Mountaineers
Oklahoma State swept the two-game series from West Virginia last season. The Cowboys shot 47.6 percent from the floor in the two games, including 13 of 29 (44.8%) from beyond the arc. OSU also connected on 20 of 25 shots from the line in each game, giving the Cowboys 40 of 50 FTs in the two games, good for 80 percent.
Defensively, Oklahoma State limited the Mountaineers to just 36.7 percent shooting from the floor, including just 11 of 40 (27.5%) from long range. OSU forced 30 turnovers in the two contests while committing 26. The Cowboys allowed just 61.5 ppg by WVU.
In the first game in Stillwater, Phil Forte scored 26 points off the bench, connecting on 6 of 11 from long range and all six FT attempts. Markel Brown added 24 as the Cowboys went 10 of 19 from beyond the arc. He also had five assists and just one turnover. Eron Harris had a team-high 17 for the Mountaineers.
In Morgantown, five different Cowboys scored in double figures, led by the duo of Le'Bryan Nash and Markel Brown who each scored 16 points. Marcus Smart had 14 points, while Brian Williams scored 13 off the bench. Michael Cobbins nearly recorded a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds.
Meanwhile, the OSU defense was smothering. The Cowboys allowed WVU to shoot just 30.2 percent from the floor, including just 19 percent from long range. OSU also forced 17 turnovers.

Oklahoma State returns home to host TCU on Wednesday, Jan. 15, at 7 pm in a game that will be televised on the Big 12 Network.
The Cowboys then travel to Lawrence, Kan., to face the Kansas Jayhawks on Saturday, Jan. 18, at 3 pm in a game televised by CBS.
