Stillwater, Okla. — Oklahoma State's pitching duo of senior Simone Freeman and freshman Meagan Lively each threw a one-hit shutout, as the Cowgirls swept Independence Community College in a scrimmage doubleheader here Wednesday evening at the Cowgirl Softball Complex. OSU won 4-0 and 13-0.
In the first game of the twinbill, Lively recorded 17 strikeouts in seven innings, and didn't allow a hit until the final frame. She did walk five batters, but only allowed five balls to be put into play and one out of the infield on a fly out. Freeman was just as effective, allowing just one hit while walking two and striking out 10 in five innings of the nightcap.
Offensively, sophomore Tiffany Mikkelson went 3-for-3 in the first contest with two runs batted in and one scored. Senior Ari Morrison went 2-for-3 in that game as well. In the second contest, newcomer Michaela Patton, a transfer from Savannah State, went 3-for-3 with two RBIs, while freshman Peyton Walker went 2-for-2 with three RBIs and two runs scored.
Oklahoma State will host Connors State on Wednesday, Oct. 2, in a doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 5 pm.
