Cowgirls Wrap Up Play at Duke Invitational

The Oklahoma State women's tennis team wrapped up competition at the Duke Invitational in Cary, N.C., on Sunday. Over the course of the weekend, three Cowgirls recorded victories over ranked singles opponents.
Cowgirl senior Kanyapat Narattana and freshman Carla Tur Mari both knocked off ranked opponents in their final day of singles competition. Tur Mari won a third set tiebreaker to defeat No. 78 Marianne Jodoin of Duke, 7-5, 4-6, 7-6(6), in the black consolation bracket's third place match. Narattana upset No. 106 Inez Denoza of Texas A&M, 6-2, 6-2, to earn seventh place in the in the White singles bracket.
Megan McCray lost a tough, three set match to No. 85 Mai El Kamash of Mississippi in the Blue singles bracket consolation final match, 7-6 (4), 4-6, 10-5. Karyn Guttormsen fell to Ratnika Batra of Texas, 6-4, 6-4, in the Blue singles bracket seventh place match.
“Overall, it was a good weekend,” Cowgirl tennis coach Chris Young said. “I liked the way that our girls competed and the improvement I saw as the weekend progressed. We learned a lot, and everyone is anxious to get back on the courts and prepare for next weekend's tournament.”
The Cowgirls will travel to Kansas City, Mo., next weekend to compete in the Missouri Invitational.
