SOUTHHAMPTON, N.Y. - Incoming Oklahoma State freshman Casie Cathrea fired a 2-under 70 during her final round at the U.S. Women's Open Championship on Sunday to claim Low Amateur honors at Sebonack Golf Club.
Her score tied Shanshan Feng for the low round of the day and was one of just four scores under par among the 68 players that competed during the fourth round. The Livermore, Calif., native finished tied for 25th place at 9-over 297 and two strokes clear of the closest amateur. Cathrea posted round of 75 and 73 to make it to the weekend before carding a 79 during her third round.
Inbee Park won the event by four shots after closing with a 74 for a 280 total.
During her final round, Cathrea caught fire early with birdies on three of her first five holes. Following birdies at Nos. 2, 4 and 5, she tacked on two more at the seventh and eighth to move to 5-under for the day. With a bogey at the ninth, she turned in 4-under 31.
Cathrea's inward nine consisted of seven pars in a row before back-to-back bogeys to close her round.
