OSU Throwers Hit Huge Marks In Waco

Nick Miller won his second-straight Big 12 Championship in the men's hammer throw, and Caitlin Way took fourth in the women's hammer to lead the Oklahoma State track and field teams in day one of the Big 12 Outdoor Championships, in Waco, Texas.
Miller dominated the hammer throw as he has all season. His winning mark of 69.22m/227-01 won the championship by nearly seven meters, and was a stadium record. His other two marks would have won the event as well.
“I was very excited to win a Big 12 title,” Miller said. “It's such an honor to be able to say I've won the conference championship twice. Hopefully I can keep this momentum going into regionals and nationals.”
On the women's side, Way didn't wait long to make her presence felt. She launched her first throw 60.02m/196-11, which was a new personal best by more than a meter. She finished fourth in the event, picking up five valuable team points for the Cowgirls.
“Both Nick and Caitlin did such a great job,” OSU throws coach John Baumann said. “Of course winning the conference title is awesome, but Nick's throws are showing me that big things are coming in the next few weeks as well. Caitlin was outstanding today, hitting a lifetime personal best and finishing higher than what she was ranked coming into the meet. Just a great day overall.”
On the track, in the men's 10,000 meters, Brian Gohlke earned some valuable team points, finishing sixth, in 29:28.38.
In the women's 10,000 meters, Victoria Fratczak finished in ninth place, with a time of 36:24.28
The OSU track and field teams will resume action at the Big 12 Championships tomorrow at 10 a.m.
