Cowgirls Move Into Third At East Regional

AUBURN, Ala. - Oklahoma State's women's golf team used a 1-under 287 during its second round at the NCAA East Regional on Friday to move up three spots into third place at Auburn University Club.
Through 36 holes, the Cowgirls stand at 577, 1-over par, and are knotted with Arkansas for third place. Alabama increased its lead over the field after firing an 11-under 277 to finish at 554. Tulane came in at 568 and is in second place at the par-72, 6,259-yard layout.
Alabama's Stephanie Meadow followed an opening 68 with a 66 to move into the top spot in the individual race at 134. Her 10-under total put her four shots clear of teammates Jennifer Kirby and Emma Talley.
Freshman Julie Yang continued to lead the way for the Cowgirls, posting a 73 to stand in a tie for 15th place at 1-under 143.
Junior Jayde Panos finished the day tied for 22nd place after following an opening 72 with a 73 to get in with a 145 score.
Senior Kelsey Vines tallied the squad's round of the day, firing a 3-under 69 to move up 43 spots into 22nd place as well. Vines stood at 2-over through five holes after carding bogeys at the second and fifth, but caught fire through the middle of her round with five birdies over the six-hole stretch from Nos. 7 through 12.
With three of those birdies opening her inward nine, she made her lone bogey of the back nine at the 13th and added another birdie at the 16th to move back to 3-under for the day.
Lauren Falley carded an even-par 72 to make a big move up the leaderboard as well. The junior moved up 23 spots into a tie for 42nd place at 148. After logging the lone blemish of her round with a double bogey at the par-3 eighth, Falley posted a pair of birdies on her second nine to move back to even for the round.
Juniors Josephine Janson posted a 77 during her second round to finish the day tied for 48th place at 149.
The Cowgirls will begin their final round tomorrow at 8 a.m. and will be grouped with North Carolina and Texas. OSU will look to wrap up one of the regional's eight qualifying spots for the NCAA Championship, which is set for Athens, Ga., May 21-24.
