Cowgirls Open Big 12 Play Against Texas Tech

STILLWATER, Okla. - The Oklahoma State softball team returns to Stillwater this weekend to open Big 12 conference play this Thursday, Friday and Saturday against Texas Tech. Thursday's and Friday's games are set to begin at 5:30 p.m. and Saturday's game will begin at noon.
The Cowgirls lead the all-time series with the Red Raiders, 32-14. OSU looks to avenge last season's series win by the Raiders in Lubbock, Texas.
The Cowgirls are coming off a perfect weekend in New Mexico where they went 3-0. They swept New Mexico in a double header on March 22, winnings 11-0 in five innings in the first game and 6-1 in game two. Then on March 23, OSU run-ruled Siena 12-0 in five innings.
Leading the Cowgirls offensively is junior Tarah Ettinger and senior Tamara Brown. Ettinger is currently leading the team with a .366 batting average, 37 hits, 27 RBIs and seven home runs. Brown's, OSU's leadoff hitter the last 21 games, is batting .362 with 23 runs, 34 hits, 10 doubles and nine RBIs. Freshman Tiffany Mikkelson has also added a spark to the Cowgirls lineup. She is currently hitting .310 with 11 doubles, three home runs and 18 RBIs.
The pitching staff has also been a major factor in the Cowgirls' recent success. Kat Espinosa (12-6) sports a 1.51 earned run average in 130 innings. She has 10 complete games and has struck out 134 batters that she's faced in 27 appearances. Meanwhile, Simone Freeman has been doing just was well. She currently sports a 2.05 ERA and a 10-7 record. In 25 appearances, she has stuck out 130 batters, including 15 in a game against Robert Morris on March 16.
After the series with Texas Tech, OSU will travel to Wichita State on April 3 to take on the Shockers at 7 p.m.
