STILLWATER, Okla. - Two members of Oklahoma State's incoming women's basketball recruiting class were named the Gatorade Girls Basketball Player of the Year in their respective states. Oklahoma's Lakota Beatty and Kansas' Katelyn Loecker each received the distinction earlier this month.
Beatty, a product of Anadarko High School, averaged 20.1 points, 5.6 assists, 4.7 rebounds and 3.5 steals per game this past year. In the process, she led the Lady Warriors to a 27-2 mark and a berth in the Class 4A semifinals.
In the classroom, she has maintained a 3.40 GPA and is the president of the Class of 2013 student council and has volunteered on behalf of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and in association with her church youth group.
Loecker, a two-time recipient of the award, led McPherson High School to the Class 4A state title game as a senior. The Bullpups posted a 22-4 mark on the year with Loecker averaging 17,8 points, 9.7 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 2.6 steals and 2.6 blocks per game.
Off the floor, Loecker holds a 4.27 weighted GPA and has volunteered on behalf of her church at various charity functions.
The duo will give OSU four members of its roster who have garnered the award. Beatty and Loecker will join current Cowgirls Tiffany Bias (Kansas, 2010) and Brittney Martin (Utah, 2012) as Gatorade honorees.
The award recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the court.
