STILLWATER, Okla.--For the first time since 2010, Oklahoma State's women's basketball team has been selected to participate in the NCAA Tournament.
The Cowgirls will be the No. 7 seed in the Norfolk Regional. OSU will face 10th-seeded DePaul on Sunday, March 24 in Durham, N.C. Tip time is set for 30 minutes following the Duke vs. Hampton contest, which is slated for an 11 a.m. (CST) start. Both games will be televised on ESPN2.
"It's really nice to see your name come up. It's been a few years since we've been to the NCAA Tournament. I'm very proud of the ladies and what they've accomplished the last couple of years. This is just a nice progression for our program to get here," OSU head coach Jim Littell said.
"I'm excited. I'm really happy for our players. They've worked hard and have had a lot of quality wins in the Big 12 and I feel that they are very deserving."
The Cowgirls will enter NCAA play with a 21-10 mark, while the Blue Demons bring a 21-11 mark into play.
The two squads have met on two previous occasions with OSU winning both times. The most recent meeting occurred during the first round of the NCAA Tournament in 1991, an 81-80 Cowgirl win in Stillwater.
OSU is 7-10 all time in the NCAA Tournament, making runs to the Sweet 16 in 1991 and 2008. The Cowgirls advanced to the second round in their last appearance before falling in overtime to Georgia.
The berth extends OSU's school-record string of postseason bids to seven. The Cowgirls made NCAA appearances in 2007, 2008 and 2010 and participated in the WNIT in 2009, 2011 and last season. OSU won its first-ever WNIT title a year ago.
