Cowgirls Head to Florida

STILLWATER, Okla. - The Oklahoma State softball team heads to Clearwater, Fla., this weekend to participate in the USF Spring Invitational.
On Friday, the Cowgirls will play Rutgers at 3 p.m. CT and Maryland at 5:15 p.m. The Cowgirls are 5-0 all-time against Rutgers, defeating the Scarlet Knights 10-2 in their last meeting in March of 2011. OSU is 1-2 all-time against the Terps, with their last meeting coming in 2010 with Maryland winning 2-1.
The Cowgirls will wrap up play in Clearwater on Sunday with LIU Brooklyn at 8:30 a.m. This is the first ever meeting between the two teams.
The Cowgirls are coming off a 10-2 victory against Central Arkansas on March 13. In the game, Tiffany Mikkelson, Samantha Chrisman, Tarah Ettinger and Gessenia DeLaCruz all hit home runs for the Cowgirls. Ettinger, Mikkelson and Tamara Brown each recorded two hits. Starter Kat Espinosa (7-6) was nearly untouchable in the circle. In four innings of work, Espinosa had seven strikeouts, gave up two hits and walked one. Junior Simone Freeman came on in relief and pitched the final three outs.
Offensively, Ettinger is hitting .387 on the season with six home runs, 20 RBIs and three doubles and Mikkelson is batting .308 with 11 doubles, two home runs and 13 RBIs. In the circle Espinosa sports a 1.76 ERA with 102 strikeouts.
