Cowboy Tennis Falls to UNLV, 5-2

The No. 62 Oklahoma State men's tennis team fell in a 5-2 upset to UNLV on Thursday at San Diego State University.
OSU fell to 6-4 with the loss, while UNLV improved to the same 6-4 mark after losing four consecutive matches.
The Cowboys got out to an early lead by winning their ninth consecutive doubles point behind wins from the pairs of Denys Pume and Richard Del Nunzio and Oleksiy Arovin and Brady Bohrnstedt. Pume and Del Nunzio improved their undefeated doubles record to 6-0, while Arovin and Bohrnstedt won their fifth consecutive match in their 8-6 victory over Charlie Alvarado and Carlos Di Laura.
OSU fell behind after the first two matches in singles play, but fought back to tie the score when Bohrnstedt delivered a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Carlos Di Laura at the No. 6 spot. However, Bohrnstedt's win would be the only singles victory for the Cowboys, as Matt Campbell, Denys Pume and Richard Del Nunzio all fell in close three-set matches.
The Cowboys' next match will come at home on March 8 against No. 19 Tulsa, followed by a doubleheader against Wichita State and Seminole State College the following day.
Oklahoma State also opened up play on Thursday at the Pacific Coast Doubles tournament in La Jolla, Calif., at the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club. Trevor Horstmann and Chris Haworth fell in a close 6-4, 6-4 match, while coaches Jay Udwadia and Yevgen Bondarchuk won their opening-round victory with a 7-5, 6-3 triumph over Skyler Butts and Neel Kotrappa from Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
Udwadia and Bondarchuk move on to a second round matchup today at 12:45 p.m. PST.
