Marcus Smart Named Big 12 Rookie of the Week

Stillwater, Okla. — Oklahoma State freshman Marcus Smart has been named the Big 12 Rookie of the Week, it was announced by the league office. It is his fourth weekly award from the conference this season.
Smart helped OSU extend its winning streak to five games with wins over Baylor (69-67 in overtime) and at Texas (72-59). The Cowboy guard averaged 18.5 points and 7.5 rebounds while totaling 10 assists and nine steals. He had 14 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, four steals and zero turnovers in 42 minutes against BU. He then added 23 points, seven boards, three assists, two blocks and five steals at UT.
For the week, Smart also converted 13 of 16 (.813) from the free-throw line. He continues to rank high in the Big 12 in several categories, placing sixth in scoring (14.6 ppg), 15th in rebounding (5.9), sixth in assists (4.6), ninth in free throw percentage (.773) and first in steals (3.0). His total of 67 thefts is tied for fourth on the Big 12 single-season freshman list.
Smart was also named Big 12 Rookie of the Week on Nov. 19 and Jan. 7, and was the Big 12 Player of the Week following OSU's victories over Iowa State and Kansas.
