Michele Smith Named the 2013 Teegins Award Winner

OKLAHOMA CITY - Former Oklahoma State softball great and current ESPN analyst Michele Smith has been named the 2013 Bill Teegins Excellence in Sportscasting Award winner, Warren Spahn Award Gala organizers announced today.
Smith, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, is the first female recipient of the Teegins Award. Previous winners include John Anderson, John Brooks, Bob Carpenter, Joe Simpson, Bob Barry Sr., Dave Hunziker, Merv Johnson, Bobby Murcer, Curt Gowdy, Ross Porter, Bill Mercer and John Rooney.
The Teegins Award, given annually to an outstanding sportscaster with Oklahoma ties, will be presented at the 2014 Warren Spahn Award Gala on Jan. 28 in Oklahoma City.
Smith will return to Oklahoma State Saturday, April 26, as she will serve as the honorary chair of the 2014 POSSE auction.
Smith has served as ESPN's lead analyst for women's softball since 1998 and was an Olympic analyst for NBC during the 2008 Beijing games. In 2012, Smith became the first female analyst to ever call a Major League Baseball game when she called a game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Atlanta Braves on Aug. 19, 2012.
As a Cowgirl, Smith was a two-time first-team All-American and was selected to the All-Big Eight team three times, the all-Region team twice and the Big Eight all-tournament team three times.
Smith ranks in the top 10 in 16 offensive and pitching single season categories. She currently holds the school record for the most no-hitters thrown with nine, including two perfect games. She owns the school record for career victories with 82, is tied for second in career triples with 10 and is second in shutouts with 46.
She is a member of the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame, the Oklahoma State University Alumni Hall of Fame, the ASA Softball Hall of Fame and the Oklahoma State Athletics Hall of Honor.
