Game Information
After a week off for finals, Oklahoma State returns to action this Saturday, Dec. 14, as the Cowboys face the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs in the All-College Classic inside Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City. The game will be the first of a doubleheader along with the OSU Cowgirls facing South Florida. Tipoff for the men's game is set for 1 pm, and the contest will be televised by ESPNU, with Dave Armstrong handling the play-by-play duties and Bryndon Manzer providing expert analysis.
About Oklahoma State
Seventh-ranked Oklahoma State is 8-1 this season following a 79-52 victory over South Carolina last Friday night in Stillwater. The Cowboys are averaging more than 90 points per game this season with five players averaging double figures. Marcus Smart leads the scoring attack with 19.7 ppg, tops in the Big 12 Conference. Markel Brown is averaging 16.2 ppg, while Phil Forte (13 ppg), Le'Bryan Nash (12.9 ppg) and Brian Williams (10.2 ppg) are all averaging double figures.
As a team, OSU is shooting 50.6% from the floor, including 41% from beyond the arc. The Cowboys have a scoring margin of 24.8 points per game. They also have a +3.3 rebounding margin and a +5.8 turnover margin.
About Louisiana Tech
Louisiana Tech is 8-2 on the season following a 93-71 victory over Northwestern State on Wednesday. The Bulldogs are led by Raheem Appleby who is averaging 16.8 ppg, one of three La Tech players averaging double-figure scoring. Alex Hamilton is chipping in 14.3 ppg, and Chris Anderson is averaging 11.3 ppg. Kenneth Smith has a team-high 59 assists, while Michale Kyser leads the team with his 6.5 rebounds per game.
As a team, Louisiana Tech is averaging 86.2 ppg with a +18.0 ppg scoring margin. The Bulldogs are shooting 49% from the floor, but just 32.7% from beyond the arc and 68% from the free-throw line. Oklahoma State is 3-0 all-time against Louisiana Tech on the hardwood, with all three meetings coming in the early 1990s. The two teams played a home-and-home series in 1990 and `91, and played a non-conference game during February of 1993 in the last meeting.
Last Time vs Louisiana Tech
Oklahoma State, led by 28 points from Brooks Thompson, handed the Bulldogs an 80-53 loss on Feb. 20, 1993. Bryant Reeves added 19 points and 10 rebounds, while Milton Brown also grabbed 10 boards. OSU shot nearly 51% from the floor while allowing La Tech to shoot just 36.7%, including just 5-of-20 from beyond the arc. OSU outrebounded the `Dogs 40-30 and also made 22 more trips to the free-throw line. Andre Jackson had 18 points for La Tech off the bench, leading the team.
At the All-College Classic
After a decade hiatus from the All-College Tournament, Oklahoma State returned to the All-College Classic in 2001 when the event was converted into a doubleheader featuring the two Bedlam schools. Last year was the first time since 2001 that the Cowboys did not participate. OSU is 8-3 at the All-College since returning in 2001.
Historically at the All-College
Oklahoma State won the inaugural All-College Tournament, which was called the Charity Cage Tournament in its first year in 1936. The Cowboys won 13 tournament titles, including eight over a 10-year span from 1944-53. OSU was 63-15 (80.8%) all-time when the All-College was a true tournament format. Oklahoma State last participated in the All-College Tournament in 1988 before the "classic" format was introduced in 2001.
Up Next for OSU
Oklahoma State will host Delaware State on Tuesday, Dec. 17, at 7 pm inside Gallagher-Iba Arena. The game will be televised by Cowboy Sports Properties.
It's then off to Las Vegas for the Cowboys as they travel to Sin City to play Colorado in the featured game of a doubleheader in the MGM Grand Showcase at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 10:30 pm CT (8:30 pm local time), and the game will follow a matchup of New Mexico vs Marquette. It will be Oklahoma State's final game before a break for the holiday.
