OSU vs. North Texas Postgame Quotes

OSU Head Coach Jim Littell
Opening statement
"It was a fun game. It's a lot of fun when the ball goes into the hole. We're better coaches when players are making shots. I thought we really shared the basketball well today and had good balance. We did a really good job of attacking the press. When Liz Donohoe shoots the ball the way she did today, it really makes a difference. She had 27 (points) and 10 (rebounds), and LaShawn Jones has 15 and 13. Brittney Martin barely misses a double-double, so you almost have three players with double-doubles. It was fun. I thought we played with a good flow. I really like the way we started the second half. It was a good flow. We were relaxed and just playing. I thought the first seven or eight minutes of the second half were really fun to watch."
On Liz Donohoe's performance
"I sat Liz down earlier this week. There's only been one real problem with her game. She hasn't shot enough. She's only been averaging six or seven shots a game. She's such a perfectionist that she starts out missing a few shots and she quits looking for it. Hopefully we got through to her. She missed her first three shots tonight and I think she finished seven for nine from three after that. Shooters have to have no conscience. They have to let it rip, and if they miss three in a row, they have to have the mentality that they're going to make the next three. She needs to have the mentality that she's going to hunt shots and look for shots."
On LaShawn Jones
"I told LaShawn after the game that I don't think I've ever seen a kid get ten offensive rebounds before. I've coached a lot of basketball, but she was attacking the glass. She had some nice spin moves inside. When the season started, we asked her to do three things: defend, rebound and set screens. I think she was a little offended by that. She thought she could score and offer some offense to this team, and I think she's starting to do that. It's fun to see a young lady like that develop. She's paid her dues. She's played behind Toni Young and Lindsay Keller. It took her a while to understand the game and for that light bulb to go off. It's just fun to have her have success because she really works hard and wants to be a good player."
Forward Liz Donohoe
On when she realized that things were falling into place
“I missed a few but I just kept shooting and knocked a couple down so it started to get my confidence up. So I didn't hesitate and it just went my way today.”
On being in the zone today
“I think the hype from the way we were all playing and knocking down 3's just adds the confidence. It's more fun that way so you relax a little bit.”
On if the UNT press caused turnovers
“We prepared for it pretty well in practice but it never goes the way you prepare for it in practice. I think we handled it well for the most part but there were a few unnecessary turnovers in there.
On LaShawn Jones
“She had 10 offensive rebounds so that's huge. She is a huge factor for us when she get's going.”
Guard Brittney Martin
On opposing defense trying to shut her down
“I kind of like that. That's good for me because in practice that's how we play in practice. The coaches tell the boys to play hard on us so I learn how to shoot jumpers over people instead of coming down the court and having free range to do what I want. I like playing like that I like when the defense is like this so I just need to get used it and just work on that.”
On if they are where they want to be at this point in the season
“I feel like we could always get better. I guess I can say we are never satisfied. This is a good run but we had this run last time last year and we still need to work on things like rebounding, blocking out, free throws and turnovers. We always have something else to work on. I'm pretty happy with where we are right now but we can also get better.”
On outrebounding UNT by such a wide margin
“Coach told us that is what they are best at is rebounding and blocking out so I think we just came in there knowing that is what we can beat them on. I think that's why we came in there so hard and aggressive.
On LaShawn Jones
“She has stepped up a lot since last year and we need that for this year. She's the big man so we really need her to do that and she has. She works really hard in practice so it's obvious to us why she is playing this well.”
