OSU vs. Lamar Postgame Quotes

Head Coach Jim Littell
Opening Statement
"I wasn't very happy with the way we played. I want to hold our team to a higher standard than we've ever held them before. We're making too many mistakes right now, and it stems from checking out on free throws, not executing in our sets and not adjusting to the officiating. We have a long way to go. The positive is you don't want to be playing your best basketball of the year right now. You want to have some things you can work on and go from there."
On having the elementary school kids in the arena
"It was great having them. I hope they had a good time. I hope it's a situation where they want to come back and watch the Cowgirls. I want this to be a positive that will generate some new fans and help our attendance. I thought it was a really neat idea, and I think the young kids that came in really had a good time. Hopefully that will help generate some more interest in Cowgirl basketball."
On the team's defensive performance
"We had to go zone early because of foul trouble, and we didn't find shooters. There are going to be times when with how the game is now being called, you're going to have to change defenses. When you do that, you have to have the ability to know where a shooter is, and we didn't do a very good job of that today. We fouled more than they did tonight, and that hasn't been a trademark of our team. There's a lot of room for improvement, and we just have to make sure that coaches and players hold themselves to a higher standard."
On Brittney Martin's performance
"Brittney is a player, there's no doubt about that. She was off for a week and a half and came back today just scoring at will, so with her it's like riding a bike--once you figure it out, you know how to do it. The one negative on her today was great players don't take themselves out of the game. We were trying to get someone in there for her and she picked up her fourth foul. There have to be times when you just let somebody go. A lot of things we do involve setting up intermediate jump shots, and she's a very good jump shooter. I was very pleased with her offensively, and with the way she is shooting right now, we just may need to create more shots for her."
Brittney Martin
On getting the first game under the belt
"I think so, it is for me cause I hadn't been playing but I think so."
On coming back from injury
"It felt good, just like normal. I just started practice a couple days ago. I felt pretty good about coming out here."
On playing for the first time this season
"Yes, I was kind of nervous like I was for my first game last year, I was a little nervous, but it did take a minute for me to relax and just play."
On trying to hit her shots
"I don't really think about that stuff, I just work hard and try to get things flowing and try to get the offense to work together. By hitting shots, everybody gets up, it helps everybody."
On having 1300 elementary school kids in attendance
"It was fun, I wish we could do that every day because it was so loud in there. They cheer for everything and they don't even know what's going on, the ball goes in the hoop they cheer. It was fun."
Tiffany Bias
On the slow start
"I think we were very lackadaisical, we just kind of came out there and we weren't executing like we should or playing defense like we should. Coach just gave us a little pep talk and put us back out there and it got things started."
On getting into an offensive rhythm early
"It was very important, we didn't execute our first play which really hurt us and it set the tempo for us, because we have a very good tempo, so it was kind of hard getting back into rhythm, but we gathered each other up and we were good."
On having Brittney Martin back
"It's nice because I missed her in practice too. It's hard not having Brittany out there because she can knock down a mid-range shot there 90 percent of the time whether she's open or not open. So it was good to have that other option when she's coming off the curl and she's out there helping and ready to go."
On her play
"It was very important for me to set that tempo, you have to be up and have a lot of energy. I think coach has really talked to me about doing more run-throughs. So I've been trying to do that more and just let my teammates pick me up if I need to and take that chance. It's all about trusting your teammates and they've had my back so far."
