STILLWATER -- Oklahoma State sophomore guard Marcus Smart has been named a selection to the Associated Press' preseason All-America team, it was announced today. The Cowboy is the lone unanimous selection as he was listed on all 65 ballots. The last unanimous preseason All-America was Ohio State's Jared Sullinger in 2011-12.
"It's a privilege to be a part of, and (I) thank all the people that voted for me," Smart said after he was made aware of the preseason award Monday afternoon. "But, I still have to work to do. That's really not one of my main focuses. I've still got to go out and prove myself day by day."
Smart was joined on the preseason All-America team by seniors Doug McDermott of Creighton and Russ Smith of Louisville, Michigan sophomore Mitch McGary and freshman Andrew Wiggins of Kansas.
Oklahoma State has never had a post-season AP All-America first-team member, which began in 1947-48.
Smart and his Cowboy teammates open the 2013-14 regular season on Friday, Nov. 1, as Oklahoma State hosts Mississippi Valley State at 7 pm inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.
