STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's women's basketball team will begin the 2013-14 campaign ranked 21st in the Associated Press preseason women's college basketball poll, which was released today.
The Cowgirls received 144 points, garnering one point more than 22nd-ranked South Carolina and trailing Michigan State by 33 points for the No. 20 slot. Connecticut garnered all 36 first-place votes and topped the poll.
The Cowgirls also checked in at No. 24 in the USA Today Sports women's basketball coaches poll, which was released earlier this week. OSU received 127 points, which was two shy of 23rd-ranked Purdue and 13 ahead of No. 25 UCLA.
Connecticut received 31 of the 32 first-place votes from the voting panel of NCAA Division I head coaches.
The Cowgirls have now been ranked in both preseason polls three times since 2008-09. Last season, OSU was ranked 23rd by the Associated Press and No. 24 in the USA Today poll.
The Cowgirls will play their final exhibition game on Nov. 4 when they host Northeastern (Okla.) State at 7 p.m. OSU will get its regular season underway on Nov. 8 at 11 a.m. when it hosts Lamar.
