STILLWATER - The Oklahoma State softball team continues their eight-game fall schedule this weekend when it travels to Tulsa to take on the Golden Hurricane in a doubleheader this Saturday, Oct. 12, at the Collins Family Softball Complex. First pitch is slated for noon.
The Cowgirls (4-0) will face a Tulsa squad which was an NCAA Regional participant from last season. Tulsa defeated OSU 5-1 on March 6 and again 8-2 on April 24 in route to the postseason.
A highlight of the fall season has been the dominance of the pitching staff. Senior Simone Freeman is 2-0 and has not allowed a run in 11 innings of work. She's given up just two hits, while striking out 25 and walked two. Freshman Meagan Lively (2-0) has been even more effective. In 14 innings, she's allowed one hit with 29 strikeouts, but has walked 10 in the process.
Offensively, sophomore Tiffany Mikkelson is hitting .545, with six hits, two doubles and four RBIs in 11 at-bats. Freshman Miranda Cavin is also hot at the plate, batting .600 in 11 at-bats, with one double and four runs batted in. Freeman is also getting her chance at the plate, hitting .667 with four hits and an RBI.
After their trip to Tulsa, the Cowgirls will travel to Fayetteville, Ark., to take on another NCAA postseason participant when they meet up with the Arkansas Razorbacks in a doubleheader on Sunday, Oct. 20. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Bogle Park.
