Cowgirls Impress on Day Two at USTA Clay Court Invitational

ORLANDO, Fla. -
The Oklahoma State women's tennis team had a strong showing on the second day of competition at the United States Tennis Association Collegiate Clay Court Invite on Friday, winning four of the day's five matches.
Freshman Megan McCray began the day with two big wins over ranked opponents to advance to the tournament semifinals. In the round of 16, McCray downed 113th-ranked Nikki Sanders, 7-6 (4), 4-6, 7-5, to advance to the quarterfinals where she took the second and third sets to knock off No. 46 Daneika Borthwick of Florida State, 2-6, 7-6 (4), 6-2.
After receiving a bye in the first round of doubles action, the Cowgirl tandem of Kanyapat Narattana and Carla Tur Mari advanced to the tournament quarterfinals with an 8-6 victory over Central Florida's Josephine Haraldson and Caroline Eberhart.
Freshman Carla Tur Mari added to the Cowgirl win total on Friday with a consolation triumph over Auburn's Michala Kucharova, 6-4, 6-2. In other consolation action, Maria Alvarez lost a tough match to Central Florida's Courtney Griffith in a third set tiebreaker, 6-2, 2-6, 1-0 (10-7).
The Cowgirls will look to keep rolling as they continue play at the USTA Collegiate Clay Court Invitational on Saturday morning.
