Cowgirl Tennis Finishes Strong in Kansas City

STILLWATER, Okla. -
Oklahoma State's women's tennis team had a strong showing on the final day of the Missouri Aces for the Cure Tournament in Kansas City, Mo., on Sunday, winning four of the day's five matches.
In the first match of the day, Cowgirls Malika Rose and Meghan Blevins fell 8-3 in doubles to Missouri's Elisha Gabb and Cierra Gayton-Leach. Later, Oklahoma State's Maria Alvarez teamed up with Princeton's Joan Cannon to defeat Missouri's Alex Clark and Maria Christensen by a score of 8-6.
Oklahoma State won all three singles matches they competed in against Princeton Sunday. Malika Rose and Meghan Blevins both defeated their opponents in two sets. Maria Alvarez toughed out a win in the third set to take the match from Princeton's Katherine Flanigan.
Meghan Blevins finished third in the final tournament singles rankings. Samantha Vickers of Tulsa took the top singles spot. Missouri's Elisha Gabb and Cierra Gayton-Leach earned first place in doubles.
“I'm proud of the way the girls responded after our performance on the first day,” Cowgirl Tennis coach Chris Young said. “We'll spend this week working on a few things we need to improve on, and getting ready for our next tournament.”
Next up, Cowgirl doubles team Rose and Narattana will travel to Pacific Palisades, Calif., to compete in the main draw of the ITA All-American Championships that are set to begin Thursday, Oct., 4. Meanwhile, the rest of the team will make an appearance at the Air Force Invite in Colorado Springs, Colo., beginning Friday, Oct.,5.
