Cowgirls Continue Tournament Action in Kansas City

Oklahoma State's women's tennis team bounced back in the second day of competition at the Missouri Aces for the Cure Tournament in Kansas City, Mo., on Saturday.
The Cowgirls opened the second day of the tournament in doubles play against Princeton after Oklahoma State and Tulsa elected not to compete in the first event. In the first match, Malika Rose and Meghan Blevins came up with the win in the Cowgirls' only completed doubles match of the day, defeating Monica Chow and Amanda Muliwan of Princeton 8-6. Cowgirl Kanyapat Narattana, who teamed up with Maria Alvarez in this round of doubles, suffered an injury in a match against Katie Goepel and Emily Hahn. Narattana had to withdraw from the match, and didn't compete for the rest of the day. C.C. Sardinha was also unable to compete today due to injury.
The Cowgirls wrapped up the day playing tournament host Missouri in Oklahoma State's second round of singles matches. Malika Rose grinded out her first singles win of the season, defeating Cierra Gayton-Leach by a score of 7-5, 2-6, 10-8. Meghan Blevins won the tiebreaker that would give her the 6-1, 7-6 win over Rachel Stuhlmann. The victory also gave Blevins the first singles win of her sophomore season. Maria Alvarez came up short after her first collegiate win on Friday, falling to Alex Clark in a three set match.
“I'm proud of our girls for bouncing back strong today,” Cowgirl Tennis coach Chris Young said. “We are battling a few injuries, but we on three of the four completed matches. I am looking for a strong finish tomorrow.”
The Cowgirls look to close out the tournament on a high note Sunday, starting the day with one last round of doubles against Missouri at 9 a.m., and squaring off in singles play against Princeton in their final event at 10:30 a.m. At the end of the day, singles and doubles championships will be awarded.
