Cowboys Defeat Gran Canaria All-Stars, 85-69

Las Palmas, Gran Canaria – Freshman Marcus Smart scored a game-high 16 points and Markel Brown added 15 as Oklahoma State's Cowboy Basketball team defeated the Gran Canaria All-Stars 85-69 here Thursday afternoon in OSU's final game of the foreign tour.
Smart and Brown combined to go 10-of-13 from the floor, including 5-of-8 from beyond the arc, and a perfect 6-of-6 from the charity stripe. They also dished out three assists each.
The Cowboys took an early 12-2 lead, but the All-Stars came back and tied the score at 21-21 with 7:30 remaining in the first half. A 22-16 run before halftime made the score at intermission 43-37 Oklahoma State.
Smart scored 13 of his 16 points in the second period, connecting on 4-of-4 from the field (including his only attempt from long range) and 4-of-4 from the line. Cezar Guerrero scored nine points in the second period as OSU outscored Gran Canaria 42-32 in the second stanza.
Michael Cobbins and Marek Soucek each grabbed a team-high seven rebounds in the game while freshman Kamari Murphy added six. Javi Alvarado was the leading scorer for the All-Stars with 14 points. OSU's defense held Gran Canaria to just 33 percent shooting from the floor, although the All-Stars did make 8-of-20 from long range.
The Cowboys finished 4-0 on their foreign tour, and begin the trek back home on Friday afternoon as they travel to Madrid, Spain, for an overnight stay before arriving back in Stillwater around midnight Central time on Saturday.
